Is anybody interested in the Vikings. I think they will do well this season with the revamped defense. New players are: Darren Sharper, Sam Cowart, Napoleon Harris, Pat Williams, Fred Smoot, Erasmus James, Troy Williamson, and more. Interesting news from their traning camp today.
Some news on the Vikes are *David Dixon began his new job today as a volunteer assistant coach at Burnsville High School. Wow, he really has ruined his career. The suprising thing is that he isnt even Head coach. Also
Talk about a fantasy football experience. Mike Hennager was minding his own business watching today’s first practice from behind one of the end zones when coach Mike Tice called on the Mankato resident to join the offensive linemen in individual drills. Tice, apparently not pleased with the play of his guards, decided that Hennager, decked out in his Vikings jersey and shorts, deserved a shot.
Hennager spent several minutes on the field as the television cameras rolled. Tice looked on and provided some pointers. There, of course, was no actual contact but Hennager has quite the story. He might need to tape one of the sportscasts tonight, however, or no one might believe him.

That would be cool if he got a contract.

Cool link, thanx. I also didn't know that about Dixon. I just remember hearing that after last year, he was going to take a pay cut and be a backup, which I thought was classy/loyal. Maybe he's had enough.
hes not retiring, its just that no team wants his so he had to settle for a job as an assistant coach at a hs. But Marcus Johnson and Adam Goldberg arent doing to well trying to fill the LG pos and there was some talk of Dixon comming back.
Interesting. I'm from Maryland and live in St. Paul, and you're from Minnesota (I presume) and live in Maryland.
Anyway, I'm not a huge Vikings fan, but I follow the team because, well, that's what the local media feed me.
I'm not so sure the defense is going to be that much better this year, to be honest. The first team looked shaky last week. Granted, it's still early and KC has a strong running game, but they looked about the same as last year.
I like the addition of Harris, but I'm not sure the linebacking core is that much better than last year. It will be interesting to see if E. James breaks the Wisconsin underperformance curse.
Oh yeah, the media were all over the Hennager episode.
You really cant tell how they'll do until about the 3rd preseason. It'll take time for them to gel together. I really think Bucleson will have a good season. I cant decide who i want the RB to be. I heard Ciatrick Fason did really well in the preseason game.
True. I was just surprised after all the hype about how much better the defense was going to be. I think they'll be good, but I'm not convinced they made the off-season moves necessary to make a run for the Super Bowl. With the new owner perhaps they have a 2- to 3-year plan?
hey guys. great 2 C this thread. lifelong Vikes fan. looking forward to the season. i'm not a big believer in pre-season games as a marker for the season. too many teams have won their division after going 0-4 in pre.
the thing about the D is, regardless of whether or not they gel and play well as a unit, and regardless of the hype, at least the front office has FINALLY done something about it. it'd be nice to see them up our +/- ratio. if they can get anywhere near the likes of the Joey Browner-Carl Lee era, i'll be happy as a pig in sh!t...
i think our bigger issue right now is losing Birk. if Daunte doesn't get in synch with the new centre, i can see a lot of promising drives ending with fumbles at the snap.
Yeah, I was surprised that the Vikings didn't guarantee Birk's salary next year. I wonder if he explicitly stated: Guarantee my salary and I'll play? Anyway, that's a tough loss.
Could Culpepper play any better so far? Oh, Williamson=real deal

yup tough loss. well, at least Birk'll be able to play with his grandkids one day.
yah, i think Daunte is at that point now where there are only a few things left for him to strive for. and that's doing it late in the season and keeping that level deep into the playoffs.
last season, he finally made a lot of the naysayers eat crow. he doesn't have to prove he's one of the elite backs anymore. nobody doubts he's one of the top 5 QB's playing now, but he's still yet to show me he can do it in the clutch in the playoffs. like leading the Vikes back late in the 4th when it counts. who cares if we squeak in as a wildcard at 8-8 even, as long as he keeps it together in the playoffs (i.e. Brady and the Pats). 14-2 records don't mean shite otherwise. we all know how those seasons can end up...
i think Moss leaving will help Daunte more than anything. cuz it looks like he has a chip on his shoulder to prove that he can do it w/o Randy. this REALLY is his team now. let's hope he has what it takes to lead them to that next level. enough already with the Pack winning the division. the lions do look dangerous though. |
